“a fun and charmin’ ride to be on.”

- Claire Mooney, Triple J

Why should I care about THE CLEVER REFERENCES?

When both Australian pop goddess Clare Bowditch and post-punkers These New South Whales think you're cool you know you're doing something right.

The Clever References has been described as a cross between They Might Be Giants and The Lucksmiths, Weezer and Tame Impala, Jimmy Eat World and The Flaming Lips…and other seemingly haphazard genre-transcending descriptions. While these comparisons might be baffling, one listen to any of their tracks should make the comparisons obvious: this band writes the best damn alternative indie rock songs in the business today.

What makes
THE CLEVER REFERENCES

different?

In a pop music landscape that's increasingly turning textural and sarcastic, The Clever References are fighting back with their clear-eyed and sincere lyricism as well as musical choices that are dare we say it...clever?

Ash, Sam and Minh still have a lot to prove but with singles such as "Tell Ben Kate'' and "Will We Ever Meet Each Other Ever Again?" they are eager to meet any challenges along the way head on!

I mean, like, are they good lol?

Listen for your self Randomny Rantano :p

But for real tho, the music speaks for itself…

But how are they live?

Check this out, this is them performing “Oh No! (I’m in Danger)”
live at the Last Chance Rock and Roll Bar in Melbourne, Australia

Holy snap! This band might be the new Beatles?!

Ha ha ^.^; I wouldn’t go that far.
More like the next Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer, at most Fountains of Wayne, but we’ll see…
Critical assessments aside, whatever their potential is, it’ll be a heck of a whole lotta fun to see where they get up to next!
